hello, lovelies!
so, i didn't watch any of gilmore girls in october because i felt that i simply didn't have the brain space to cram twenty-two episodes of that ON TOP OF the thirty-one short horror stories and the seventy-three horror movies. i did, however, binge the entire third season of the show in less than twenty-four hours.
i felt feelings, and i'm gonna tell you about them. get a coffee or warn beverage, get cozy.
that first scene threw me for a loop. i thought the allergy medicine had gotten to me and that i was going to die. but then lorelai woke up for real and was just as freaked as i was, though for a completely different reason. i liked lorelai a bit more this season than i did in the previous two, but i still feel complicated about her. i liked that she was there for sherry (whom i LOATHE) before chris (whom i still don't hate, but i'm definitely getting there) got there. and i liked that we got to see what lorelai's life was like when she was pregnant with rory. very eighties. and i liked her concern about rory when she and jess almost (could it be considered almost though?) had sex at the party, and i'm so glad that she and sookie got the dragonfly. overall, i liked her this season.
rory, girl... i'm glad i'm not eighteen anymore. this drama surrounding her and dean and jess made my head hurt. i never liked dean, i thought he was boring and the whole episode in season one with the tradwife and homecooked meals or whatever it was put me off. it was good to see rory graduate, as well as be a friend to paris (even if they were fighting for about half the season), and i may or may not have shed a tear during her graduation speech. i was like luke: a mess. and i liked that she was with jess... for a bit. i don't know, there was something about their relationship that started to sour for me and made me not really like them together much anymore. i didn't like how he would blow her off and treat her like dirt at times, but i do think he really cares for her. i'll be disappointed if we never see him again.
luke. my guy. i love that he was (or seemed to be) happy dating that lawyer whose name i cannot recall at the moment oops, but the way he had a dream of lorelai telling him not to propose to the lawyer. girl the call is coming from inside the house. he's so in love with lorelai that he can't even see it because of those fucking hats, bless him. i liked seeing more of his relationship with jess, and how he parents. again i say, it's not easy to raise a teenager. especially when they're so intelligent and you know that and they know that, but they just don't apply themselves and then they end up falling behind.
jess. i love milo ventimiglia. jess, on the other hand... okay, i don't HATE him, but good god do i just wanna put my hands around his throat and squeeze while i thrash him around a bit. he's so smart. SO smart. but so goddamn stupid. but, i have to remember: he's a boy, and boys just don't get it like girls do, not inherently. they gotta be told and shown. well, that's my experience with boys, anyway. brothers, friends, an in-law. not saying they're dumb, of course not. they're all very smart, and i love them all to bits. but good god. and then running away to california? like, yes i get that luke kicked him out and stuff was tense, especially with rory, but i think he should've stayed, or at least tried to. also travelling from the east coast to the west coast by bus? he's crazy.
i feel very complicated about emily and richard this season. of course, i loved them, but there were moments where i just couldn't stand them. and i hated the way that richard yelled at lorelai when she was paying him and emily back for chilton. like girl, that's YOUR fault for not telling emily that you did all that when lorelai was born. pissed me off to no end. and i know that emily is like... very "stuck-in-her-ways" and stubborn and all that, but could she not have taken the initiative to apologize to lorelai? i mean, lorelai explicitly said at the beginning of the show that she would pay back her parents for the money they loaned her for rory's tuition, so that shouldn't have been as shocking as it was for emily. like girl. be so fucking for real right now.
the side characters were good this season, too, as they always are. except for jackson. i don't know what it is about him, but i HATE him. i love sookie, and i'm happy that she's happy she's pregnant. i like adam brody as dave. i just like adam brody in general (he was so fine in ready or not, i will die on that hill). i HATED how dean dumped rory in the middle of the dance-a-thon like that. like, yes your girlfriend was kinda emotionally cheating on you and was into another guy who you were already worried about, but to dump her LOUDLY in front of the whole town? dean, you will develop a cough in three days time, and you will not make it to christmas.
anyways. this season was fun, probably my favourite so far, though that seems to be the common consensus on the series. from what i've heard about season four, it's a mixed bag. can't wait. i'm honestly just proud of myself for getting this far into the series, and that i was able to watch a season in a day. i was locked in. i liked the storyline of lane and the band and dave, i thought it was fun and interesting. i didn't like the whole dean-rory-jess thing, i thought it was stupid. i've never been into love triangles (or love corners, as this is), i've always found them profoundly stupid. i didn't like how the whole alex-lorelai plot just kinda got dropped, and that lorelai kissed max. just stupid shit all around.
well, i think that's all for this post. my ranking of the seasons so far is season three, season two, season one. season one is only ranked so low because there was no milo ventimiglia and too much jared padalecki. and rory was annoying, but i think we all are annoying when we're sixteen. i'd give her a pass, but i just don't feel like it. no matter, i'm excited to start season four, and i can't wait to update you all on my thoughts and feelings about it when i finish it!
until next time!
xoxo
