i was a teenage thirty-year-old

the vampire diaries has been on my radar for years now, and i've watched about half of the first season, but i could just never actually get into it and i have no idea why. it's right up my alley, all the vampires and stuff, and the drama is top-notch. i even read the first two books (i dropped them because why did l.j. smith spell halloween as hallowe'en like... girl what). it pissed me off to no end, and every time i read it like that i just wanted to throw the book over the cinderblock wall of my high school. maybe if i had read the books when i was in middle school or a freshman, the issues wouldn't have bothered me, but alas, i read them when i was just about eighteen, and the issues were egregious. and yes, i know that that spelling is a traditional spelling of the true abbreviation for all hallows' eve, but i had never seen it spelled like that before and i was just so angry about it.

don't be fooled, though, there were actual grammatical and spelling errors in the book, i just don't think i have any photographic evidence of them. i know there was a random Γ± just thrown in the middle of a word that didn't have any n's in it at all. it was so odd.

i don't have the books anymore, but i kinda want to give them another shot because i'm bored, and i want to read things that will give me fall vibes. i've been debating actually trying to watch the tv show again, because it's in the same category as gilmore girls for me (2000s shows with a huge following that lizzy adores and wants me to watch), and i'm currently having some pretty good luck with gilmore girls right now. maybe the library has the books? i'll have to look. there are a bunch of teen shows i never watched when i was a teenager that i want to: pretty little liars, teen wolf, one tree hill, the oc, dawson's creek; shows like that. sometimes it makes me feel like i missed out on a huge part of being a teenager. i did, however, watch friends about thirteen times, start to finish, when i was on netflix. sigh... i miss when netflix was THE place to watch all the teen and adult shows. they used to have everything. now all they really have are the worst films you'll ever see and long-running international dramas (outlander, heartland, call the midwife). though, its catalog has gotten much better recently, so maybe there's still hope.

anyways, tl;dr is: i'm wondering if i should give the vampire diaries, as well as other 2000s teen tv shows, another chance like i did with gilmore girls.
