hello, lovelies!
september is finally here, and with it so much more than just fall! cooler weather, rainy and gloomy days, and so many birthdays. like, almost an absurd amount of birthdays. welcome to my first monthly overview; grab a snack and a beverage and get cozy while i talk about upcoming things for the new month!
today is my cat's birthday: he's thirteen now and still acts like he's four. he's grown up with me from childhood to now; he's my sweet boy, and i love him more than anything. well, except maybe apples. much love to my little dude.
then next week is one of my best friend's, yvonne's, birthdays. we've known each other since the first day of first grade, and shockingly she's decided she likes me enough to keep me around for these past seventeen years. honestly i don't know which one of us is crazier. she lives on the opposite side of the country as than me, but we talk often. for a while in high school we didn't talk to or see each other much, as she went to a different school, but now i feel like we're stronger than ever. having seen our friendship evolve from childhood and playground tag and doing schoolwork together to being teenagers and getting older to finally adulthood and navigating the world and relationships. love her so much, and i'm so glad we'll be friends forever. she knows too much about me to get out now, anyway.
the week after that i have two other friends birthdays; first, a close friend from high school, and second, my other best friend, lizzy. i don't see either of them as often as i'd like, but we stay in touch. the week after that is another friend's birthday, and then finally, to close out september, is my grandmother's birthday. we're doing a big party for her in october, and i'm really excited to see all my extended family members. october is going to be a busy month, too, but i'll save the details for the october overview next month.
anyways, now that it's finally fall (or at least just about there), i can start putting away my summer scented perfumes and lotions and body washes and start breaking out my fall and halloween ones. i already have my favourite halloween scent, vampire blood from bath and body works, in stock, and i have my warm vanilla and spiced things for fall in good supply for a while. i really want to get the new apple scented shimmer body mist that victoria's secret dropped for halloween, and i want to stop by bath and body works to see their autumnal scents, since i got my vampire blood stuff during their summerween promotion at the end of july.
i'm excited to get back into baking! a couple years ago, my sister, lee, made these apple cider cheesecake cookies that were so delicious. i've been dreaming about them since. i also want to try my hand at baking a pie this year, as i've only ever made cookies and one box of s'mores brownies. and i'm excited to pull out my cocoa box; i've accumulated a good amount of hot cocoa over the last few years, so i'm prepared for all of fall and winter. last night, my dad had me try the limited edition apple pie a la mode oreos, and they might be my favourite flavour of the cookies now. they were just so good, i had to go to bed to stop myself from eating the rest of the pack. i'm going to ask him to pick up another pack, just for me, next time he goes to the store if he can.
i started watching gilmore girls today, as it was the winner of my last poll. now, i've a confession: this isn't the first time i've tried to watch the show. it's actually the fourth. the first time, i was maybe twelve and fell asleep halfway through the first episode; the second time, i got distracted and left on as background noise; the third time, i got up to episode seven before giving up last year. lizzie has been trying to get me into the show for almost seven years now, and each time she fails i think she debates ending our friendship, so hopefully fourth times a charm. fingers crossed.
i've been kind of slacking when it comes to crocheting over the summer, and i think the only things i finished were lizzie's sister's birthday gifts, and my grandma's birthday gift. i want pick back up my granny square apple blanket, as well as get started on gifts for other people; i say that like i have a plan for what i'm going to make, but i have nothing. i also want to make myself some decor for my room, like maybe a tapestry pillow or some cobwebs, as i have some cotton thread leftover from some summer projects.
another thing is i want to get into more autumnal-themed books and movies. my tbr is still in summer mode, but i have a few books for fall lined up. as for movies, all i really have in my queue are horror movies for october, though i do watch the genre year-round. i know i want to rewatch dead poets society, the fantastic mr. fox, and juno; i want to watch practical magic for the first time, but other than that i don't have any ideas. if any of you have any recommendations, do let me know!
